"This just simply allows for children to, orient in their school activities and in their school settings with their natural hair in ways that are culturally appropriate to protect their hair," Representative Rachel Prouty said, adding that the bill includes safety exceptions such as hair nets, helmets and wraps.
The bill, Prouty said, has been adjusted to mirror a Senate version and this hearing marks the latest time she has carried the proposal. "I am presenting for, I believe, the fifth time, the Missouri Crown Act, which is House Bill 284," she told the committee.
