Residents, county staff praise Calaveras County Public Access Television’s community outreach

"It can't be understated, the value that PA TV has in the community," Barnes said. He said PA TV attends local events, including town halls and an annual emergency preparedness day, and helps produce public service announcements designed to expand the county's outreach.
"PA TV has helped us out, in the last couple of years by coming out to our community events like town halls," Barnes said. "We host an annual emergency preparedness day, and they come out and highlight our, community events and, show them out to the public." He told the meeting the county uses platforms such as Everbridge but relies on PA TV to reach "a demographic that we're not usually engaging with."
Faye Morrison, who identified herself as being "from Calaveras County," said she has been attending PA TV sessions weekly to learn technical skills. "I didn't grow up with computer language, and I find that a a detriment now. I came and, have been coming weekly, all this year and being with a very kind and patient leader who who tactfully calls what she does tech help," Morrison said.
Participants in a program called Future Filmmakers described learning camera and filmmaking skills through the partnership with PA TV. One participant said, "I joined Future Filmmakers because I really enjoy photography. I wanted to learn more about, cameras, and I want to get into filmmaking and videographer." Another participant identified as a homeschooler said the program provides new activities and clubs.
Commenters also highlighted a partnership between PA TV and Calaveras County Animal Services to promote adoptable animals and county programs. "These videos look great. These cat videos are so cute," one speaker said, describing positive responses on social media.
Speakers urged expanding PA TV's public service announcements and training opportunities so the channel can continue to broaden county communications.
