At the Feb. 3 meeting the council received a short report from the Fiber Committee. Committee members reported approximately 2,635 customers in service and an estimated 51.7% citywide market share for the Anacortes fiber service.
Committee members said conservative forecasting models have tracked slightly under actual results and that projections indicate 2026 will be the last year requiring net contribution from the general fund; 2027 was presented as the first year with an expected net surplus of about $220,000. Committee members described the models as conservative and noted past results have generally come in 2โ5% better than projections.
The committee discussion also included technical items such as network equipment and routers; no council action was requested or taken during the update.
