The BEREFORD City Council voted to declare two downtown parcels — 101 North Third Street and 103 North Third Street — as surplus property and directed city staff to return with recommendations on how to proceed with sale or listing.
City staff advised the council that declaring the properties surplus is the step required before the city can either list them with brokers, pursue a private sale, or hold a public auction. The staff explained options including working with multiple local realtors to coordinate listings and a standard process for publishing an intent to sell and setting a proposed reserve price as a percentage of appraised value.
Councilmembers discussed using several local agents to co-list the properties and setting minimum broker percentages and noted legal requirements for publishing any proposed sale and for a hearing if council rejects an offer below the appraised value. The council did not select a final sale method at the meeting; staff will convene local realtors and return with a recommendation at a subsequent meeting.
