The Mineral Wells City Council unanimously approved three routine items at its meeting: a resolution authorizing an advance funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for a green ribbon landscaping project along U.S. 281 and U.S. 180, the order of election for May council races, and the consent agenda.
City staff described the green ribbon item as the city’s second such grant for corridor landscaping and said the new award differs only by amount and project locations from last year’s grant. “It's done,” a staff presenter said when asked about work already under way, and the staff member confirmed there is no local match required. The staff member stated the grant award amount as “hundred and 79,000,” which staff identified as $179,000 during discussion.
Council members asked about timing and potential issues with the Texas Department of Transportation; staff said preliminary reports show necessary power and related work are complete and the project is on schedule. A councilmember moved to approve the resolution; the council voted 5-0 to approve the advance funding agreement.
On the order of election for May, staff said one change removes Monday, April 21 from the calendar because it is San Jacinto Day at the state capitol and no city election activity should occur on that day. Staff also said voting locations may be updated by the county elections administration and that the order will be revised if other entities hold concurrent elections. A councilmember moved and the body approved the order of election by a 5-0 vote.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the consent agenda as presented by a 5-0 vote. No additional items were added during the future-agenda discussion.
The green ribbon advance funding agreement will proceed to execution with TxDOT; staff will manage any final reporting and maintenance obligations under the agreement.
