Jolie watercolor and Wings of Joy move forward; Art in Chambers extended and school exhibitions discussed

Wings of Joy: Artist Diane Boswell’s Wings of Joy project has secured a new fabricator (a Canadian firm that prints on metal to withstand exterior exposure). Under the revised arrangement the Canadian firm will fabricate and assemble the wings and a local creative-design firm will handle installation. Staff said engineering drawings and color proofs have been exchanged; fabrication is expected to take about four months once approved. The board identified $5,000 in the public-art budget for landscape work and is exploring whether the city’s tree fund can supplement landscaping so the project does not require an additional appropriation. Staff noted coordination with purchasing and public-works staff is required for contracts, site preparation and drainage checks.
Art in Chambers and exhibitions: The current Art in Chambers exhibition was extended three months; Wanda Granville will take a slot beginning in April and run through July. The board discussed inviting the Oviedo Photo Club to exhibit and creating a future rotation for Haggerty Middle School and Oviedo High School student artwork, with April suggested as a preferable exhibition month for showing later-year student work. The board also discussed working with local framing resources and the photo club to prepare entries for exhibition.
No binding decisions to alter project budgets were adopted at this meeting; staff and artists will continue contract and procurement work and will report progress back to the board.
