Students and families press board to preserve CityView Community High School

Two current students and several family members addressed the board during public comment to urge the district to maintain CityView Community High School and to allow time for the program to develop.
Roy Lathrop, a junior at CityView, told the board CityView “changed my life for the better,” saying he struggled with mental health in prior schools and found at CityView “adults who genuinely cared about me.” He said the program helped him reengage with school and extracurricular activities.
Val Malone, a sophomore at CityView, said she no longer dreads school and credited the program’s advisers and peers with rapid personal growth. “I have had some of the quickest and most impactful growth of my life going there,” she told the board and asked for more time for the program to realize its potential.
Superintendent Dr. Grover responded in her report that CityView enrolls about 75 students and acknowledged parent and student feedback. She told the board staff and teachers are meeting this week to discuss next steps and program design, and said the district values CityView and is committed to working with families and staff as the program evolves.
No formal action to close or alter CityView was recorded at the meeting; the superintendent said the district will continue convening meetings with program teachers, families and staff to explore design adjustments.
