The county’s Veterans Affairs office presented its FY26 budget to the Board of Supervisors and said most lines were stable after several years of variable funeral and outreach costs.
The office director told supervisors the budget contains a $3,000 education/training line tied to a state reimbursement for required national training, and described a $15,000 grant they hope to receive for veteran grave care that would be expended for a wash if received and fully expended. The director said state grant carryover rules mean unspent grant receipts would revert to the general fund unless the board approved alternative expenditures.
Supervisors discussed an improvement request embedded in the submitted budget that would reclassify two full-time clerks (Lisa Robinson and Sasha Downs) from Clerk 3 Grade 5 Step 4/5 to Clerk 3 Grade 6 Step 4/5 (wage-plan employees). County staff noted the improvement-request amounts are included in the “received” budget and that the board still must make a separate personnel motion to change staffing status. Board members clarified that the board may receive the budget with improvement-request dollars included and reduce the budget later before final adoption.
The board voted to receive the Veterans Affairs budget documents and acknowledged they will decide separately whether to authorize the improvement-request personnel changes at a later meeting.
