The Planning & Zoning Commission voted Feb. 4 to approve a roof cover over an existing second-floor balcony at 401 College StreetNortheast corner, with conditions requiring structural drawings and a building inspection.
Commissioners said they would like staff to inspect the balcony decking and existing decorative iron pillars before the contractor begins work, and they told the applicant that a roofer must provide structural attachment details. "He'll have to come with drawings and structural drawings and attachments," a commissioner said during discussion.
The motion passed by voice vote; commissioners attached a condition that the city' building official inspect the structure and the decorative metal supports and require modifications if necessary before final approval.
The approval mirrors an earlier cover approved on a different corner of the same building a year earlier; the commission asked staff to confirm material and structural compatibility with the historic downtown character before permits are issued.
