Summary
Town staff reported progress on the milestone recertification program: 15 of 53 required buildings have recertified, three are under review for phase 1 reports, several have overdue or extension requests for concrete restoration applications.
Katarina Chidawi, presenting a milestone recertification update at the Feb. 4, 2025 Town Commission meeting, said progress continues under the town's building recertification program.
"Since the last update, we have had 1 building recertified, so that makes 15 buildings out of the 53 that are required," Chidawi said. She reported that three buildings are currently under review for their phase 1 reports; two buildings still require additional information; three buildings are overdue on their concrete restoration application; two buildings have requested an extension to apply for the restoration permit; and 24 buildings are still under concrete restoration permit. Chidawi also said one building had been sent a notification late last year and remains within the due date to submit initial phase 1 reports, and that three buildings have due dates far enough in the future that no status notification has yet been sent.
Commissioners asked whether there were any cases of outright noncompliance or nonresponse; a commissioner summarized, "So it appears that we're doing well. Yes. We have many that have completed and many that are in progress, but there's no, outright non compliance or no response. Correct." Chidawi confirmed that, saying staff had seen progress and had no instances of total nonresponse at that time.
The presentation was informational; no formal action was taken. The update indicates active monitoring by the building department and continuing follow-up with property managers to secure required reports and permits.
