Commission recommends $40,000 to hire Good Standing for outreach, videos and website content

The Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission on Feb. 5 voted to forward a recommendation that the Western Regional Water Commission approve a contract with Good Standing, a public-relations firm, for up to $40,000 to develop education and outreach content for the WRWC website and a pilot video series.
Program Manager Kim Rigdon told the commission Good Standing is already working with local water partners on outreach programs and that the firm would help create a website education page, condense the regional water management plan into digestible content, and pilot “How Water Works” videos for the Truckee Meadows. "Good Standing is a well suited to provide these professional service[s]…to create a framework for what we're going to pilot a series of videos how on how water works in the Truckee Meadows," Rigdon said.
Camille LaRae, a communications planner with Good Standing, summarized the proposed approach and scope. "We're envisioning anywhere from 4 to 5 videos" of roughly three to five minutes each to explain key topics, LaRae said. Rigdon said Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency staff will handle site design and that Good Standing will develop the content so it can be updated in-house.
Commissioner Chris Mixon and Commissioner John Enloe voiced support for LaRae’s prior work with other local outreach programs. Commissioner Mixon said LaRae had done "a lot of work for Tamwa" and that her work is "very professional." Commissioner Mixon and other commissioners moved and seconded a recommendation to forward the scope and funding not to exceed $40,000 from the Regional Water Management Fund to the WRWC. The motion carried unanimously.
The contract scope in the packet (attachment 6A) describes three primary tasks: (1) condensing plan content into high-level, visual summaries; (2) creating a web page listing WRWC projects with links to partner pages; and (3) producing a pilot series of short videos titled “How Water Works.” The commission expects to rely on member agencies and staff for content support and expects the WRWC website to be updatable by staff after launch.
