Monongalia County records second distribution from West Virginia opioid settlement; report due April 30

Monongalia County commissioners were notified Feb. 5 that the county has received a second distribution from the West Virginia opioid settlement fund administered by the First Foundation.
County Administrator Reneta McClure read the correspondence, saying the check was from the West Virginia First qualified settlement fund and described it in the meeting record as “the second distribution of the, state opioid settlement funds from the First Foundation. Check is for $346,003.00 $4.79.” The meeting packet included a letter from John Jenkins, the CPA and account administrator, reminding the county that a report for the previous year’s funds is due April 30, 2025.
Why it matters: the settlement distributions are ongoing state-level payments to local governments arising from opioid litigation. The funds and the required reporting schedule affect how the county will account for and report spending of those proceeds.
The commission did not vote on use or allocation of the funds at the Feb. 5 meeting; the item was listed as correspondence and administrative staff were asked to note the receipt and the reporting deadline.
