Fresno County launches digital victim-witness notification system

The Fresno County District Attorney's Office announced the launch of a digital victim-witness notification system in the fall of 2024 to deliver real-time updates on cases to victims and witnesses.

A spokesperson for the Fresno County District Attorney's Office said the system will begin sending notices once a case has been formally arraigned in the Fresno County Superior Court and will deliver alerts about court dates, case updates and changes to case status to recipients' phones or email.

"The Fresno County District Attorney's Office is proud to announce the launch of a new digital victim witness notification system designed to keep you informed every step of the way," the office said. The office said the tool enables quick notification of victims and witnesses about important developments in cases in which they are involved.

According to the announcement, the system activates after formal arraignment in the Fresno County Superior Court and will notify recipients of court dates, case updates and status changes by phone or email. The office said, "To date, our office has sent out thousands of messages to ensure everyone involved is aware of what's happening with their cases." The announcement described the goal as giving victims and witnesses "ample notice of future hearings, should they wish to attend."

The office also advised that individuals who have received a subpoena should contact the office's witness coordinator at the number listed on the subpoena. The statement said the technology is intended to help the office "better serve those impacted by crime and strengthen public safety."
