The Codington County Commissioners voted Tuesday to allow the Watertown Area Home Builders Association to serve alcohol to vendors at a private event after the Watertown Home Show on March 8.
The association’s representative, Julie Neland, told the commissioners the post-show gathering is a vendors-only, private event held after the public show closes and that attendees would be served drinks rather than sold alcohol. “We just invite our vendors in for a private event, and that’s where we would like to serve them,” Neland said. The request covers service at the Codington County Extension Center complex following the show.
Commissioner McElhaney moved to approve the request; Commissioner Gable seconded. Commissioners voiced support, noting past events had been closely monitored and had not caused problems. The motion passed after a voice vote; the board did not record an individual roll-call tally.
County staff and commissioners clarified the event would not require a liquor license because alcohol would be served (not sold) to invited vendors. No service agreement, additional permits, or special conditions were recorded in the minutes.
The association confirmed all home-show booths were filled and said organizers would continue monitoring the event. The county did not attach further conditions in the meeting record.
