Community members urge integrity and fuller Black History instruction during public comment

Paula McCauley commended district staff for transparency and accountability in financial reporting, saying staff provide “transparency, accountability and integrity” and urging community engagement when questions arise. McCauley told trustees the district’s financial materials and audit information are publicly available and encouraged parents to examine reports directly.
Conrad Dandridge urged the board to emphasize Black History Month instruction districtwide and to ensure a “balanced view of history” for K–12 students. Dandridge noted this year marks the 99th Black History Month and referenced the recent California Commission on Reparations report as a background for renewed attention to equity in curriculum. He recommended classroom inclusion of Black inventors and labor leaders and stressed that addressing gaps for Black students would elevate outcomes for other groups as well.
Ending: Superintendent Rossi and trustees acknowledged both speakers and said the district engages DELAC/ELAC and the DEI committee on curriculum and equity work; trustees asked staff to coordinate dashboard and LCAP analysis with advisory groups as follow up.
