Arkansas House passes several bills on county offices, judiciary designation and a statewide preemption on lawn-care bans

The Arkansas House on the floor passed a package of bills addressing local office organization, judicial staffing and a state preemption on local bans of lawn-care equipment.

House members approved measures that: allow Northwest Technical Institute to appoint a president with an industry background (House Bill 1133); redesignate the Fourteenth Judicial District related to prosecuting attorneys and declare an emergency (House Bill 1006); separate the combined offices of sheriff and tax collector in Searcy County (House Bill 1137) and Poinsett County (House Bill 1050); and prohibit local governments from banning the sale or use of lawn-care machines based on their fuel or energy source (House Bill 1075). The bills carried varied debate and vote margins on final passage.

The measures matter because they change how local posts are elected or structured in two counties, adjust district designations for prosecuting attorneys, and create a statewide restriction on local ordinances that would single out equipment by energy source.
