Article 16, a petitioned article to add an additional polling place, was amended on the floor to ask the town to study adding a second polling location at Whitcomb Hall (17 Main Street) for all local and federal voting. The amendment was offered by petitioner Heather Estrella and was seconded and discussed.
Speakers included supervisors of the checklist and town staff who described the operational complexity of adding a polling location, the need for additional ballot clerks, and logistical considerations such as parking, equipment and staffing. A former long-serving town clerk noted the town previously used multiple polling places and that equipment and staffing needs were a primary driver of consolidation over time.
The amendment passed by voice vote and then the article as amended was approved to appear on the warrant in amended form. Supporters said the study would clarify logistics and costs before the town commits to adding another polling place.
