Wooster council approves fleet, utility and maintenance purchases in one vote series

Wooster City Council on Monday adopted a slate of budgeted resolutions authorizing vehicle purchases, meter upgrades and a biosolids management contract extension.
The council approved seven items that were presented as budgeted and routine: a Ford Ranger inspection vehicle; replacement meter transmission units; an extension for lime and biosolids residual management; an asphalt distributor truck; a crew truck; and a dump truck. Council members repeatedly noted the items were within the city budget before voting.
Each item was introduced by the sponsoring council member and carried by motion and roll call. For example, Resolution 2025-06 to buy a Ford Ranger as an inspection vehicle was introduced by Mr. Abernathy; Ms. Knappick seconded the motion to adopt and the council approved the purchase. Mr. Malta introduced the meter-transmission resolution (2025-07) and told council the replacement advances the city—s meter automation.
Public discussion on these items was minimal; presenters described the purchases as replacements for aging equipment or as contract renewals at existing pricing. Several council members and the mayor thanked the public works crews for winter work during the meeting and noted long lead times for some equipment.
Votes were unanimous for the items recorded on the agenda. The approvals allow the administration to complete vendor contracts and move forward with specified purchases and contract extensions.
