Representatives of the state’s transportation industry groups appeared before the House Transportation Committee to introduce their organizations and outline priorities for the session.
Shannon Newton, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association, said most of her members operate long‑haul interstate commerce and identified road safety and infrastructure investment as the association’s principal concerns. “Issues that are pertinent to us obviously include road safety and infrastructure investment,” Newton said.
James Miller, representing the Arkansas Railroad Association, said he handles matters involving Class I railroads and invited committee members to raise questions about rail topics during the session.
Anne Gilbert, director of the Arkansas Transit Association, said the association represents 16 urban and rural transit agencies as well as nonprofit senior centers and developmental disability providers that receive vehicles from the department of transportation. Gilbert emphasized the association’s role in supporting both urban and rural transit providers.
All three groups offered assistance and contact points for legislators as transportation bills are considered; their remarks were introductory and no formal policy actions or votes were taken during the meeting.
