The Clayton Board of Zoning Appeals on Feb. 4 approved its 2025 meeting schedule, accepted its published rules of procedure and completed routine officer appointments at an organizational meeting that included a swearing-in and an announced resignation.
The actions set the board’s meeting cadence for 2025 (generally the first Tuesday of each month, with May and November dates noted as irregular because of election-day timing), ratified an 11‑page rules-and-procedures document that staff said had no changes from last year, and installed officers for the year. Board staff also said the board has received one variance application for the March meeting and that another new member may be sworn in at that time.
Board members approved minutes from the Nov. 6, 2024, BZA meeting with an abstention recorded for one member who did not attend that prior meeting. The board accepted the rules and procedures as distributed, with staff reporting no changes to the 11-page document included in members’ packets. The board voted to adopt the 2025 meeting schedule with two dates noted as exceptions because they fall around scheduled elections.
The meeting included nominations and roll-call votes to appoint the board’s officers for 2025. The board recorded affirmative roll-call votes for the chair and vice chair nominations and for the appointment of the clerk of council to serve as the board secretary for the year. A board member announced the resignation of Member Hunter; staff confirmed the vacancy and said it has received one new application for variance 25-01, described in the meeting as an appeal regarding the number of accessory structures permitted on a property in the Suburban Conservation zoning district. Staff said it will follow up with applicants and circulate materials ahead of the March 4, 2025, meeting.
Staff closed the session after a brief administrative update and a motion to adjourn. No substantive land-use hearings or final decisions on variances were conducted at this meeting.
