Woodland Elementary on track for spring move‑in; Northwoods Park Middle delayed to April after weather, unmarked utilities

District facilities staff told the Onslow County Board of Education that Woodland Elementary is on schedule and within budget, while the Northwoods Park Middle School renovation has been delayed.

In a nonaction construction update, the presenter described the Northwoods Park Middle School project as a two‑phase renovation that will add a new gymnasium, locker facilities and parking/queuing improvements. Staff said exterior work and cold weather delayed progress and that crews discovered unmarked utilities while creating a new parking area. Those issues pushed the completion target back; staff said the Northwoods Park project is now expected to finish in April and remains within budget.

Woodland Elementary, the district said, is progressing on schedule. Staff showed drone and contractor photos of the campus and reported completed roof inspections, near‑complete curbing, ongoing interior casework, terrazzo flooring in main corridors, continued HVAC startup and canopy installation at the bus loop. Because there is no sewer on Belgrade/Swansboro Road, the new Woodland Elementary will use a three‑tank septic system; district staff said septic tank and drain‑field work has begun. The presenter said the building is scheduled for district possession in April, final inspections in May, furniture delivery in June and a dedication ceremony in August. He also noted the site will include an 800‑kilowatt generator to power shelter areas during emergencies and that the school has a planned capacity around 840 students.

Board members asked for a projected completion date for Northwoods Park; staff reiterated the April target and explained the delays were caused by winter weather and the unexpected unmarked utilities that required additional excavation and coordination with local authorities.
