LCUSD presents midyear LCAP update; district to collect more community input and revise next year’s plan

Karen, executive director of student programs and services, presented the district’s midyear LCAP update covering data collected from August through January and described next steps in the three-year LCAP cycle.
Karen said the midyear report compiles outcome and expenditure data tied to the district’s four LCAP goals and that some metrics remain unknown at midyear (for example, end-of-year surveys) while many actions are “in progress.” She told the board Senate Bill 114 requires presentation of an annual LCAP update and an overview of the budget prior to Feb. 28 and that the district will continue collecting stakeholder input.
Karen said the January LCAP committee meeting was postponed because of the fires and is rescheduled for March, after which the writing team will draft updates and the board will consider a draft later in the spring. Board members asked how proposed budget reallocations or cuts would be reflected in the LCAP. District staff explained that actions, services, metrics and targets can be adjusted to align with funding changes and that narrative sections accompany budget line items in county reporting when there are major changes.
Karen closed by highlighting student performance on state assessments and the district’s responsive teaching plans, while noting ongoing challenges such as hiring and chronic absenteeism, and the potential budget constraints the district is addressing in parallel with LCAP planning.
