Corporation Counsel Michael Lortz presented an ordinance for first reading that would amend Chapter 10 of the Skokie Village Code to allow the sale and consumption of alcohol at 4051 Main Street, a property the village recently acquired for events and other functions.
Lortz described the proposal as a site‑specific exemption permitting the sale and consumption of alcohol on village‑owned property when the event is village‑sponsored or a village activity. Any vendor must be an existing Skokie liquor licensee and would be required to obtain a temporary liquor license for each event under the village’s temporary‑license provisions (section 10‑40). "This building was recently acquired by the village for various functions and events," Lortz said while summarizing the memo attached to the ordinance.
Lortz said the measure is intended to provide flexibility to existing and potential restaurants and vendors and to allow issuance of additional license types under the village’s liquor‑licensing structure. The ordinance will return for a second reading and possible final action on Feb. 18, 2025; no vote was taken at first reading.
