The Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 4 to express support for the Board of Tax Assessors to pursue a countywide property revaluation and to return to the commissioners with a detailed funding request when costs are known.
County staff said the last countywide revaluation was completed in February 2007 and that typical practice is to reevaluate every 15 to 20 years because cost schedules and valuation tables become outdated. A county staff member who raised the issue noted that he had received a quote from a Georgia revaluation company and planned to bring the subject to the Board of Tax Assessors for their consideration.
Commissioners agreed to a motion supporting the Board of Tax Assessors’ pursuit of a countywide reevaluation and recommended that the assessors return with a specific funding request once the assessors determine a preferred vendor and precise costs. The motion passed by voice vote; no funding was authorized at the Feb. 4 meeting.
Ending: The Board of Tax Assessors will consider vendor options and costs; commissioners will review and vote on funding after the assessors provide a formal request.
