Richmond City Council approved a request from Saving Destiny Animal Rescue to use the Roosevelt Civic Auditorium for a wrestling fundraiser on Saturday, April 12, with a performance window from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and doors (or event time) extending to 1 a.m., and with alcohol service planned pending liquor‑commission approval.
Director Van Hove presented the reapplication and said the event was first held June 15, 2024, and was a successful fundraiser. Organizer Tremblay described planned matches and local arrangements: “First first first of all, I wanna preface this by our last year event was a success. We we hope to expand upon that,” Tremblay said. Tremblay said the headliner match will feature independent wrestlers with possible future WWE contracts, that Oscar and Wally’s would return as a food truck, and that StarCraft Brewery would provide adult refreshments subject to the rescue’s application to the liquor commission.
Tremblay said the rescue will provide insurance and required special verbiage listing the city as required, and that ticketing will include two price points — $30 for the floor and $20 for bleacher seating — with tickets available online via the event sponsor and at the door. The council asked no substantive questions of the organizer. A motion to approve the nonprofit use of the Roosevelt Civic Auditorium with alcohol service for the event was made and supported; council approved the request by voice vote.
The council’s approval allows Saving Destiny Animal Rescue to proceed with insurance, liquor‑commission filings, and event planning under the conditions noted in the application and the city’s special‑event process.
