Council appoints reappointments and new member to Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

Economic and Community Development staff recommended two appointments to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC). Councilmember Verano explained the LTAC structure: four positions representing tax generators (hotels), four tourism representative positions and a voting council chair.
The council approved reappointing Gayla (Gala) Haas, executive director at KDP, for a three‑year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025 and ending Dec. 31, 2027. Jim Moran, general manager of Plaza on the Green (Best Western property), was appointed to a three‑year term beginning April 4, 2025 and ending April 3, 2028, his first full term after filling a partial term.
Councilmembers voiced support for both appointees and reminded the committee that members must recuse themselves from discussions where they would personally benefit from a grant award; staff noted the LTAC has denied applications in the past and follows conflict‑of‑interest procedures. Motions to appoint both members were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote with unanimous approval.
