Board backs cross‑county grant proposal to restore forest health near county border

The Board of Supervisors on Feb. 4 approved a letter of support for a forest health grant application led by Napa‑based organizations targeting burn‑scar rehabilitation and fuel‑reduction work along the Napa–Lake County border.
Project goals and partners According to the project summary, proposed activities include removing downed and weakened trees, conducting local seed collection for reforestation, restoring habitat on BLM lands, fuel reductions at Montesole Ranch adjacent to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, and supporting cultural burns by the Middletown Rancheria Pomo Indians on trust lands. Napa Firewise is leading the effort in partnership with local fire safe councils, the Lake County RCD and tribal partners.
Why it matters: Project proponents said the work will address legacy wildfire impacts from the 2015 and 2020 large fires, reduce future fire risk to communities and protect critical evacuation routes.
