The board approved the agenda on a motion by Trustee Dr. Alicia Johnson, seconded by Trustee Peary. The motion passed after a voice vote. Later the board approved the consent agenda on a motion by Trustee Johnson, seconded by Trustee McClenny; the motion passed by voice vote. The consent agenda covered minutes of previous meetings, December deals, personnel changes and retiree recognitions, membership and finance reports, an athletics vehicle purchase, the district emergency operations manual, an addition to an SMS item described as "grama help," and a contract listed as the White Pick contract.
Superintendent Carter introduced four recipients of the district's "Whatever It Takes" awards and described their recent work supporting students and families. The honorees were Tiara Stevens, recognized for organizing the "Stuff the Bag" initiative and for building donor partnerships; Sierra Blair, a new teacher noted for starting a girls empowerment class and community service that raised funds for Safe Place; April Jones, recognized for inclusive instruction and special education support; and Kia Williams Townsend, cited for long-term student support work at STEM and community-building initiatives.
Superintendent Carter said the awards acknowledge staff who have "made significant positive impacts on students, colleagues, the district, or the community." Board members invited recipients to join them at the front of the room for photos.
The board also reviewed several upcoming items and routine reports during the same portion of the meeting; no additional formal actions were recorded on those items during this segment.
