Bernalillo County representatives asked state lawmakers for state capital outlay funding to renovate county-owned housing, complete repairs at a nonprofit service site and expand medical facilities at the county Youth Services Center, a county presenter said.
Speaker 1, a Bernalillo County staff member, opened by thanking partners and state leaders, saying, “We want to thank all of our partners in this building today. We can't do anything we do without the partnerships that we have, and our state lawmakers and governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, are key to that.”
The presenter said one of two county “capital alley” projects would upgrade and renovate existing county-owned housing, naming Sable Oak Village, which provides housing for disabled individuals, and El Centro Familiar, which offers housing for elders. The county described those projects as focused on renovating existing units the county owns.
The presenter also said the nonprofit PB and J, which serves at-risk children and their families, has one location in “much needed repair,” and that PB and J has begun construction on a new facility and needs additional funds to complete that project. On juvenile services, the presenter said the county is seeking $1,000,000 in capital outlay funding for the Youth Services Center (YSC). “We're seeking $1,000,000 in capital outlay funding to support the expansion and renovation of YSC, their medical department, to include a new nursing station, a waiting area, and expanded medical and dental exam rooms,” the presenter said. The presenter added that the requested expansion would also add new courtrooms, hearing rooms and additional office space intended to support judges, facility staff and the community that uses the center.
The remarks thanked legislative sponsors and noted a proclamation would go before the house chambers and senate chambers; the presenter also thanked Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for hosting.
