Organizers ask Chester County for $15,000 to revive "Christmas in Chester" event for children

Brenda McBrayer asked Chester County Council during the public comment period to provide $15,000 to help revive Christmas in Chester, a community event for children ages 12 and under that was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I'm here begging for money. My budget is about $36,000 to put this on," McBrayer said. She described planned activities including a Friday tree lighting, an ice-skating rink, a Saturday breakfast with Santa, a snow hill behind the library, a tea party with china cups, face painting, arts activities and licensed character performances. McBrayer said some individual line items include an ice rink at $3,600 and a Snow Hill estimated at about $8,200.
McBrayer told council she planned to fund the remainder through business donations and county support, and asked the county for a $15,000 contribution because she said deposits are needed soon. "As soon as possible because I have to make deposits on all this stuff," she said when asked about timing.
Chairman Pete Wilson and Council members thanked McBrayer for the work and said County Administrator Kenneth Hester would follow up. No formal action or vote on funding occurred at the meeting; Hester was identified as the staff member who would work on the request.
