The board approved the contract, for a not‑to‑exceed amount of $37,500, subject to review by the county attorney and authorization for the chair to sign. The item was presented as a required update to the county’s comprehensive plan; county staff and the regional council said the plan’s goals, objectives and policies guide future decisions on housing, visitors and business development.
Why it matters: The comprehensive plan sets policies the county uses when reviewing development proposals and allocating infrastructure. Updating the plan to reflect current conditions and a longer planning horizon affects future land‑use decisions and permits.
Planning staff explained the update will include data analysis and revisions to policies and will be completed consistent with the Florida Administrative Code and Florida Statutes. The presentation noted prior public outreach: staff said an initial public workshop with the planning commission had already taken place and that those materials will be provided to the Central Florida Regional Planning Council for the update.
Jennifer Coda Salisbury, identified in the meeting as executive director of the Central Florida Regional Planning Council, and county staff outlined a schedule that includes publicly advertised workshops with the planning commission and subsequent outreach.
Motion and vote: Commissioner Patterson moved to approve the planning advisory services agreement between Glades County and the Central Florida Regional Planning Council in the amount of $37,500, subject to county‑attorney review, and to authorize the chairman to sign. Commissioner Barnes seconded. The board voted unanimously among attending members; Commissioner Sapp was recorded as absent. The motion passed 4‑0.
Ending: The county attorney will review the agreement language before the chair executes the contract; the county will begin the public‑engagement portions of the plan update following contract approval.
