The adjournment followed short announcements made from the floor about nonprofit and campus outreach events planned for Jan. 29 in the State Capitol Rotunda. Representative Gustoff, identified as the representative from Polk County, said, “Tomorrow, January 29, will be Habitat for Humanity of Iowa’s day at the Capitol. They’ll be serving hot breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the rotunda from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.” Gustoff said last year the Habitat network of 20 affiliates “built and repaired 479 houses across Iowa” and encouraged members to stop by the table to learn about Habitat’s programs and volunteer opportunities.
Representative Kenneth Piccola, identified as a representative from Marion, announced that the State Rehabilitation Council will host coffee and donuts in the Rotunda “tomorrow morning” from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Representative Young, identified as the representative from Dallas, invited members to a Des Moines University table in the Rotunda on Jan. 29 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., saying constituents could “learn more about the top notch health care providers they are developing right here in Iowa.”
Representative Wishtittle, identified as the representative from Harrison, also announced that Republicans would caucus at 2 p.m. in the Supreme Court chamber.
The session opened with a prayer offered by Representative Zabner and the pledge led by Mariana Flores, a House page from Clive; those ceremonial items were not part of the House’s legislative actions and were not debated. The House approved the correction to the journal earlier in the session before the announcements and adjournment.
