Champaign Countyestablished a committee to plan a dedication for the Bennett Administrative Center and approved a $6,000 budget for the event during its February facilities committee meeting.
The committee will include county board members and community representatives, and the committee roster was amended during the meeting to add Rachel Spencer, identified as a former legislative aide to Senator Bennett. The motion to adopt the amended resolution passed after a voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
Board discussion focused on the scope and cost of a public dedication. Ben (board member) asked, "Where did the $6,000 number come from? And is there an itemized list of what that $6,000 will be spent on?" Jenny Locke (staff member), who has been working on the item, said there is not yet an itemized list because the committee has not convened to determine a program and expenditures. "This is the budget that we would, generally consider in dedicating a building," Locke said, adding that the committee would not be required to spend the full amount.
Committee members also noted that the building was previously named for Senator Bennett by a prior resolution of the board; the dedication committee will plan public remarks and events related to that name and the opening of the Bennett Administrative Center.
The amended resolution establishing the Bennett Administrative Center dedication committee passed by voice vote; the motion record in the transcript does not identify the mover or seconder by name. The committee and the $6,000 budget will be placed on the county board consent agenda for the next meeting. The facilities committeenoted the next meeting is scheduled for March 4 at 6:30 p.m.
