The Colchester School District board approved a three-year lease extension for its central office at 59 Ratti Road, accepting a 3% increase in rent that the administration said aligns with recent inflation figures.
Amy (Colchester School District administrator) told the board the district moved its central office about three years ago and that the current space houses finance, human resources, payroll, transportation, communications and other central functions. She said the space provides a large conference room and a smaller room used for on-site tutoring and a weekly backpack food program run in partnership with private donors and the Vermont Food Bank.
The proposed lease retains current utility arrangements and includes renewal options at the end of the three-year term. The board voted to approve the lease by voice vote after a motion; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally or the mover's name.
Why this matters: the administration said the office location is about six minutes from the main campus and that, while it meets the district's near-term needs, the board and administration still view long-term co-location nearer the main campus as desirable. The administration flagged one operational priority for future planning: moving the district IT function out of Colchester High School to free space in the school building.
Ending: The lease approval was procedural but ensures the district retains consolidated central-office capacity while administrators continue to plan longer-term facility options.
