WJCC Schools Foundation reports growth in grants, teacher support and volunteer base

Penny Polley, chair of the WJCC Schools Foundation, presented the foundation’s annual status report to the school board, summarizing recent programs and plans.
Polley said the foundation — a 501(c)(3) — focuses on raising funds and awareness to enrich teaching and learning across the division. Since 2016 the foundation’s signature program has been the Innovative Learning Grant, which provides classroom funding for pilot projects and new instructional approaches. The foundation also sponsors Teacher of the Year awards and operates a Teacher Supply Shop that provides free classroom materials to educators and division staff.
Polley told the board the foundation’s 20‑member board recently added four directors and that volunteers remain a critical component of program delivery. Looking ahead, the foundation plans events for its 10th anniversary (the foundation began in October 2015), aims to increase donor engagement and expand the Innovative Learning Grant program, and will establish the Olwen Heron scholarship in honor of the former superintendent. Polley invited board members to participate in the foundation’s annual grant‑award day on Feb. 14, when the foundation delivers grant funds to teachers in classrooms.
Board members thanked Polley and the foundation for volunteer support and financial contributions.
