Wright County accepts donations for veterans from DAV chapter and Wright-Hennepin Cooperative

Wright County commissioners unanimously accepted two donations intended to help local veterans during their Feb. 4 meeting.
Greg Pickard presented a resolution to accept the annual donation from Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Hutchinson Chapter 37, which the board uses for emergent veteran needs that do not fit other programs — for example, gas, food or vehicle repairs. Pickard said the chapter’s gift typically has been in the roughly $3,500 range in recent years and noted the county uses the funds for “emergent type of fund” assistance when other funding lines are unavailable. "They have been a very great partner for us," a commissioner said during the vote.
Pickard also asked the board to accept a separate donation from Wright-Hennepin Cooperative: gift cards collected by employees the prior year. Pickard explained that subsequent rule changes have restricted use of gift cards, but because the cards were donated before the policy change, the county intends to distribute the existing cards under the earlier rules. "We can't take any more gift-card donations," Pickard said, noting state and grant documents removed gift-card authorization.
Both donations were accepted by unanimous resolution votes.
