The Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization elected Mayor Glenn Jacobs as chair and Mayor Ken Cannon as vice chair at its Jan. 29 meeting, the board confirmed by voice vote.
The vote came during the board's first meeting of the year, when Doug Burton of TPO staff reminded members of the bylaws governing leadership terms. "The bylaws say that, the chair vice chair can serve a 2 year term and then a maximum of 2 consecutive terms," Burton said, explaining why both the chair and vice chair positions were open this year.
Nominations were brought from the floor, a motion and second were recorded, and the board approved both officers by voice vote. The board also recorded its appreciation for outgoing Chair Mayor Terry Frank, who completed two consecutive two-year terms and will remain on the board.
The board recorded the officer elections as official actions in the meeting minutes; no roll-call vote tally was recorded on the transcript and both confirmations were conducted by voice vote.
The newly elected leaders will take over administrative and agenda responsibilities for the TPO's work in 2025, including oversight of the Transportation Improvement Program and related planning activities.
