Board of Public Works approves payroll, claims, vehicle inventory, contracts and grants

The La Porte Board of Public Works approved payrolls, claims, contracts and several grant and procurement items during its Feb. 25 meeting.
The board approved the civil city payroll ($560,043.74) and civil city claims ($765,993.06), as well as sewage claims ($887,604.80) and water claims ($292,903.59). Members also approved the annual vehicle inventory checklist and a series of vehicle leases and lease extensions for city departments.
On procurement and contracts, the board approved the city’s contract with Reith Riley for the Park Street project (the board earlier had accepted Reith Riley’s bid), approved a pay request (pay request number 12) for a letters‑and‑numbers contract that brought the project to about 94% complete and authorized payment currently due of $217,449.75. The board approved payment to Bancroft (TGB/Bancroft) for work on the McClung Road project in the amount noted in the meeting record and accepted that work as complete.
The board approved a general services agreement on an as‑needed basis with Karner Blue Era LLC for grant and funding assistance and set a $5,000 not‑to‑exceed cap for initial use; the contract requires board return for approval if staff requests an increase above the cap. The board also authorized sending two contracts for the raw water main (well site to Lake Street filtration plant) out to bid; those contracts separate the long intersite run from the on‑site well house work and include unit pricing for open‑trench and directional‑bore restoration.
The board voted on a ticket appeal under Ordinance No. 25‑141 and denied the appeal after the officer’s incident narrative indicated a 24‑hour notice had been issued and additional days had passed before the vehicle’s tow date.
One matter was tabled for further review: a proposed formal utility easement and the status of a deck built over the city’s unrecorded utilities at 804 Pine Lake Ave. City staff and board members asked planning and legal staff to gather permits, variance records and locate history and return with a full record before the board takes further action.
