Peninsula School District wins national innovation award for AI work; superintendent outlines NAEP context and field upgrades

The district was recognized for AI integration and a comprehensive approach to technology education. A district official said the award recognizes the district’s “vision for technology integration” and noted the effort spans classroom instruction, digital citizenship and teacher training.
District staff also summarized the recently released National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 2024 results and explained their limits for local action. John (district staff) said the federal NAEP sampling methodology provides small samples per district and, for Washington in 2024, the district had just one school sampled (Pioneer for fourth grade). “NAEP results don’t really tell us anything about Peninsula School District students as a whole,” John said, noting NAEP is intended as national/state benchmarking rather than a district‑level diagnostic.
Patrick, the district grounds director, reported work on middle‑school fields (Goodman and Kopachuk) and on baseball fields at Peninsula and Gig Harbor high schools. He said soil and infield work will continue as weather permits and that the district has sought a contractor for an additional project related to fields.
Superintendent and board members congratulated staff for national recognition and thanked maintenance crews for weather‑related work during recent snow and delays.
