Council members discussed openings among outside‑agency liaisons and the boards and commissions appointment schedule at the Feb. 4 meeting. The clerk reported there were 72 valid board applications for roughly 24 seats and that three seats were true midterm vacancies arising from resignations.
The conversation focused on reassigning four liaison roles left open by a council vacancy (Arapahoe County Homeless Coordinating Committee, Arts and Culture Board, Community Services Block Grant forum, and the Tri‑Cities Homelessness Initiative Policy Group). Council members volunteered preferences; several said they were willing to assume liaison duties if schedules permit. The clerk said some boards require a single elected representative and staff will confirm rules for each body before final assignments.
Council also discussed how to handle the boards and commissions interview workload. The clerk proposed collecting council members’ top preferences for which applicants to interview and returning a narrowed list for scheduling; councilors expressed a preference to automatically interview incumbents who applied for reappointment while using a shortlisting process for open seats. The clerk set an internal timeline to circulate a mapping of vacancies, applicant counts and recommended interview shortlists and asked councilors to return their preferences within days so staff can schedule interview dates before the next packet deadline.
No formal appointments were made at the meeting; staff will follow up with dates and a recommended interview shortlist based on council guidance.
