A FirstEnergy representative briefed the Elyria City Council on the company’s online streetlight outage reporting system and encouraged residents and city staff to use it to create trackable work orders.
Nick Edseris, FirstEnergy’s local contact, walked council through the online form and emphasized that reporters should use the "multiple street lights" option when several lights are out so crews do not treat the report as a single-service repair. He also explained that the site sometimes asks for an account number and advised users to click "next" if they do not know it to continue the submission.
"If there's multiple, please click multiple, not just the 1," Edseris said. He added: "That that that catches a lot of people off guard because I don't know what my account number is... Just click next and it'll move you over to the next tab, and then basically, it will just ask for your contact information and location of that street light, and you just hit submit."
Why it matters: Using the company’s reporting form creates a work-request order number that allows city staff and residents to track repairs and gives FirstEnergy a record to prioritize work.
Edseris said he can research slow or unresolved tickets if council members or staff provide the work-request order. He invited council to call him with development-specific questions about turnaround times.
Council and staff follow-up
Council members identified specific long-running outages (State Route 57 between Bell Avenue and the Turnpike; West River between Ford Road and David Drive) and Edseris said he would escalate those internally. Assistant Safety Service Director Lesch and other staff confirmed they work regularly with FirstEnergy on outage lists.
Next steps
Council members were advised to submit outages through FirstEnergy’s website and to share work-request numbers with Edseris for escalations; city staff will continue coordination with FirstEnergy on longer outage strings.
