Weber County approves Broken Heart Rodeo contract for Intermountain Icebreaker high school rodeo

The Weber County Commission voted Feb. 4 to approve a contract with Broken Heart Rodeo Company LLC to hold the Intermountain Ice Breaker High School Invitational Rodeo at the Golden Spike Event Center.
Duncan Olson, representing county event operations, described the Icebreaker as “one of the best events we do all year,” saying the fairgrounds have sold out RV spots and stalls are filling. Olson told commissioners that the event drew competitors from about 18 states last year and that this year’s roster already includes participants from Alaska and Canada.
Commissioners praised the event as part of the county’s Western heritage and highlighted the facility’s role in hosting youth rodeo and other events. Commissioner Jim Harvey (at the meeting) described an on-site inspection and commended the venue’s cleanliness and usability for performers.
A motion to approve the contract was made and seconded; the chair called for the vote and announced the motion carried.
Olson said the county is targeting the week of March 3–8 for the event. The approved contract authorizes the Golden Spike Event Center to host the competition and related services; transcript remarks noted the county’s role in stall cleaning and other operational support.
