County staff presented an initial report on the first year of Taos County lodgers-tax grants at the Feb. 4 meeting, describing application and award counts, award totals, reimbursement status and outreach needs.
Jessica (last name not provided), a county lodgers-tax program staffer, said the county received 34 applications across two grant cycles and made 29 awards. She reported the total funding requested and the total awarded (figures presented during the meeting); to date reimbursements to grantees total just over $100,000 and grantees have until May 15 to request reimbursements.
Jessica said the advisory board funded about 91% of the applications and granted roughly 79% of requested funding amounts, and that awards have been distributed across a wide range of organizations including arts and fairs. She noted geographic concentration: about half of awarded funding was concentrated in Taos and recommended more outreach to northern and southern parts of the county and to outdoors and recreation organizations, a sector that submitted only one application (which was not funded).
Jessica also announced the next application cycle opens March 3 and closes March 31; awards from that cycle will support activities beginning in July for the next fiscal year.
