Staff reported they added clarifying language after an earlier workshop to "specifically call out any amendments that may be necessary to the village's comprehensive plan," and emphasized that municipal decisions on land use and comprehensive-plan changes should remain local.
Council members said they want protections so Tequesta can select recommendations appropriate for its community rather than being forced to follow a county template. "I just want to make sure that we can do what's best for Tequesta and not do what county or anyone else is doing," one council member said. Another council member noted Tequesta's mobility priorities — for example, local connections such as between the country club and Constitution Park — differ from larger jurisdictions' mobility goals.
Staff said the county process is already underway and the resolution will not stop county work but would provide the village with a record of its support contingent on language preserving home rule. Staff said funding and the long-term implications for capital programming remain open questions.
