The Fairhope Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 3 voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council approve zoning text amendment ZC 25.21, which removes the uses “boarding house” and “dormitory” from the zoning use table.
Planning staff explained the amendment is intended to clarify the ordinance and avoid overlap or ambiguity between boarding/dormitory uses and other lodging or institutional uses in the table. Staff said the change is a cleanup and that the city is retaining definitions and parking standards in the code where they might still apply for limited institutional uses or campus settings.
There was no public comment on the amendment at the meeting. The recommendation now goes to the City Council for final action.
