City staff reported that the City Council adopted a new strategic plan intended to guide operations and investments for the coming years.
Mr. Rizzitello summarized the plan’s mission — “building a safe, affordable, and connected community where everyone thrives in vibrant spaces” — and a shorter vision that describes College Place as “a welcoming, vibrant, diverse, safe, and walkable city with a flourishing downtown.” He said city council workshops and community surveys (more than 140 completed, in English and Spanish) shaped the plan.
The plan organizes priorities into five buckets: a connected community (communications and connectivity), a fun community (events and programming), a resilient community (operations and emergency readiness), a safe community (public safety services) and an affordable community (housing and affordability). Rizzitello said department heads will lead implementation and that the plan is expected to guide operations for the next eight to ten years.
Miss Garcia and commissioners commented on the council’s emphasis on affordability and on outreach plans: the city will distribute QR codes and links in newsletters and communicate at community events such as the farmers market to share the plan with residents.
No formal commission action was taken; staff presented the plan as information to the Economic Development, Tourism and Events Commission.
