Commission adds Education Freedom Act resolution to Public Services Committee for review
Summary

The Hamblen County legislative body on Jan. 13 voted in Calendar & Rules to add a proposed resolution concerning the Education Freedom Act (a school-voucher measure being considered by the state legislature) to the Public Services Committee agenda for consideration.
County Mayor Chris Cutshall said the county previously passed a resolution opposing the Education Freedom Act and that the mayor’s office would present the school board’s action (the school board was to consider the matter the night after the county meeting). He asked the commission to consider taking up the school board’s forthcoming action and potentially reaffirming opposition.
Calendar & Rules action The Calendar & Rules Committee approved adding section B to the Public Services Committee agenda so the county could consider a renewed resolution on the Education Freedom Act; the motion passed. Committee members noted the matter could also be considered in Finance because of potential tax impacts but left it in Public Services per prior committee routing.
