Commission approves application for East Tennessee homeowner-rehabilitation disaster grant

County Mayor Chris Cutshall told the committee that Hamblen County is one of eight counties declared a federal disaster and that the Tennessee Housing Agency recognizes the declaration for individual assistance. He said the county’s request may be for no less than $250,000 and up to $1 million to help eligible families in Hamblen County.
Motion and outcome A motion to approve submission of the grant application was made by Ms. Ahern and seconded by Mr. Huntsman; the committee voted and the motion carried.
Why it matters: If awarded, the grant would supply federal recovery funds for homeowner rehabilitation in Hamblen County after the declared disaster. The application will proceed through state and federal grant review processes.
