Beaver County to track warming-center usage after cold snap; officials to report numbers next week

"Is there information available to the public...that identifies how many people are utilizing the existing warming shelters? And is there a plan...for additional warming centers that get activated in tiers based on how cold it gets?" asked Andy, identified in the transcript only by his first name.
A county official responded that local providers and shelters are central to the response, naming Cornerstone, the YMCA and the Center of Hope in Conway as examples that have opened in past extreme conditions. The official said, "We could reach out and have numbers for next week just a week after just to see roughly how many residents...had to go to a warming center." The county staff member said they would obtain the figures and share them with the resident and commissioners.
No formal policy change was made at the work session. The exchange was recorded during the audience participation segment and county staff committed to follow up with utilization numbers.
