Wayne County Public Schools board members on Feb. 3 voted to accept the districtadoption of state-approved high-school biology textbooks.
Curriculum staff told the board teachers previewed the candidate textbooks and three core teachers from across the county assessed alignment and usability. Staff said the North Carolina textbook commission updated the list of approved texts and the State Board of Education approved the adoptions that allowed the district to preview and select materials.
The district presented a five-year quote to the board; staff reported the publisher agreed to provide online student access immediately at no charge even though the formal license begins next year. The associated workbooks were described as consumable and included in the purchase price.
The motion to accept the textbook purchase was made by Mr. Henderson and seconded by Mr. Fook; the board approved the purchase by voice vote. Staff said they will finalize delivery and implementation schedules and that the books currently will be used at the high-school level only.
